Epidote was not identified as a separate mineral until the beginning of the nineteenth century, by the French crystallographer Rene-Just Hauy. Before that, it was always considered to be the same mineral as actinolite. Epidote also received its name from Hauy. It means something like “addition” (Latin) as epidote, unlike actinolite, has two ‘extended’ sides. Unfortunately, there are no traditions about the healing effects of epidote.
Epidote bestows patience. It dissolves false self-images, makes us aware of reality and highlights the weaknesses and strengths of true self-image. This results in desires for change that are, however, realistic so they can be realized and success can then build on success. In this manner, epidote takes us back to the original positive inner images of a healthy, happy existence. This is exactly the meaning of ‘re-generate’.
Epidote encourages recovery and regeneration after severe illnesses or in cases of great exhaustion caused by overwork, stress and painful experiences. It lifts the emotions and dissolves sadness, sorrow, self-pity and grief. Epidote also helps overcome frustrations caused by failure and teaches us not to devalue ourselves because of mistakes we have made.
Epidote improves our capabilities. It helps us live up to our own demands on ourselves in an appropriate fashion, that is, with due consideration of our own strength and ability, and in this way saves us from failure. By gradually increasing these demands, our own capabilities can then be harmoniously expanded and developed. Epidote also helps us accept and admit to our weaknesses. |
